I would like to share some ideas that may be helpful to pack homemade lunches in a bento lunch box. I usually like to pack at least 4 types of foods: carbs/grain (carbohydrates), proteins, vegetables and fruits. I always include some type of vegetables in each lunchbox. Yes, even if I know it will come home uneaten. It sometimes take years for a kid from “NO” to being willing to try. High protein food will help kids stay fuller longer.

I like to pack with bold colours as it provides great visual impact and creates a better appetite.

Colours that you may consider : Red, Yellow, Orange and Green.

Examples: Carrot, bell pepper/capsicum, strawberries, plum, tomato, red radish, apple, corn, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, orange, lemon, grapes, raspberries, nectarines, banana, lettuce, cucumber, green onion, edamame, broccoli, spinach, snap peas, asparagus, green beans, brussels sprouts, green peas and kiwi fruit.

Always plan ahead what you would like to put in the lunch box. To cut down the preparation time, left overs from dinners would be ideal. You may pre-cook in big bulk dinner meals and freeze it. You may like to bake muffins, mini sausage rolls, zucchini fritters, pizza scrolls, patties, pies, cheese and bacon scrolls, banana bread, mini meatballs and mini quiches in a big batch and freeze it. You may pre-cut your vegetables and keep them in the fridge.

Here are some school lunches that I made for my kid using Boon Cargo, Bentgo kids, Lunchbots bento box.
A food cup is great for keeping wet things away from dry ones and hold loose items like blueberries in one place.

I send the lunch box to school in an insulated bag with cooling panel that keeps the food cool the whole day long at school with a frozen smoothie or yoghurt in a reusable food pouch.

You may use any type of lunch boxes to pack your kids school lunch. Get ones that are BPA-free and chemical free for your kids. You may also add on some cute and funny food picks, a lunchbox note and use silicone food cups. If you are packing hot food for your child, look for a thermal insulated food jar that is able to keep your food warm for hours.
No more stress! Get your little ones involved in making their lunchbox with the fun sandwich cutters and bento accessories. We ensure your lunch box will never be boring anymore and lunch boxes will keep coming home empty.

Lunch for tomorrow 28.01.2015

I’m organized already for tomorrow’s lunch which is great! My daughter came home from her first day of prep/school and brought me her lunchbox from today for me to clean out. Instead of packing it later tonight or early tomorrow morning, I packed a new lunchbox for her straight away. Lucky I have four of the easy lunch boxes ready to use each week!

Anyway- here is her lunch all ready to go! It includes- a homemade cheese and bacon bread roll with butter in the middle, capsicum sticks, carrot sticks leftover from making spirooli veggies for dinner, rock melon cut into cubes, sour cream mixed with some homemade milk kefir to get some great probiotics into her and some homemade processed sugar free banana bread with butter in the middle. I hope this is enough, although I think it should be as she didn’t eat all her lunch today!

Phew! We survived the first day! I’m buggered after getting up at 5am to go running/walking before the early start of getting the kids ready for school drop offs. I must say though my daughter made it easy as she was so excited to go this morning!

Some lunchbox inspiration for you all :)

Here are some photos of previous lunches I have packed for my kids. Some are healthy and some are not so healthy. Needless to say though they were all eaten… And so you know as well, I pack most lunches the night before using food I have cooked and frozen in portions ready to grab and pack to make it easier. This way might not work for others and it’s what works for me and our family. I hope you get some ideas of what to pack as well…

Welcome to my blog! :)

Hi there! Thank you for visiting my brand new, never used before blog! This is where I will be posting ideas, links, photos, recipes and many other fun things that help make packing lunch boxes for kids (or anyone really) easier, organized and more enjoyable.

First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Anita and I am a stay at home mum (and love it!). I have a love of food, cooking, being creative and most of all I love helping others. I have previously worked casual in retail as well and only recently became a full time stay at home mum again. Before I became a mother I did an apprenticeship in Picture Framing and completed it and also worked in a few other retail and hospitality positions over the years. Being a mum is definitely the best job in the world- being paid in love, hugs and kisses!

Ok- back to telling you more about me! I have a loving, supportive and wonderful partner- Chewy (his real name is Christopher and I don’t normally use that) who is my rock. He is always there for me through thick and thin and we are best friends. We have two beautiful children together who are nearly 5 and 3. Their names are miss Marlee and mister Darcy. They have shown us really what life is all about and what happiness and love is. We have our good and bad days like anyone else and none of us are perfect, and we are perfect just the way we are! Life is definitely more fun since having them that’s for sure!

Now I should tell you how this blog has come about. As you know I love all things food, cooking and helping others etc. Well, on my Facebook profile I was posting lots of food I cooked for our family and packed for my kids lunches etc. Then my friends Taryn and Charlie were talking together one day and suggested to me I should start a Facebook page all about lunchbox ideas for kids. Well I took that idea and ran with it as I thought that it was a great idea (and I don’t have to flood my friends and families news feeds with all my food photos)! So here I am now creating a blog where people can come and check out some ideas and get help with packing their lunch boxes. This is not just for mums or dads- it’s for anyone really. Grandmas who want ideas for their grandchildren- babysitters or day cares for snack and meal ideas, workers who want inspiration on what to pack for work each day and anyone who eats really!

So there you have it- a little about me and how this all came about. I hope you like this blog and share it with your friends and get something from it. Feel free to drop me a line anytime if you want help with anything as I’m more than happy to help.
